Minnie Ha Ha Park

This neat little park is right across the Meramec River not far from where I live, and it seems to have been renovated recently with nice paved walking trails, multiple playgrounds, firepits and more!

We Americans sure love our rules and regulations.

 Or do we?

 Stay classy, Sunset Hills.

OK, enough social commentary.  Just trying to break the ice...

Looking across the sparkling water toward Old Towne Fenton

A sign in the park revealed that in the days before air conditioning, this sandy beach was a very popular spot in summertime.  Back then, the property also boasted a dance hall, picnic facilities, zoo, refreshment stand, and boat dock.  A covered toll-bridge replaced the ferry service in 1854.

Though it's midwinter, I was perfectly comfortable in jeans, a sweatshirt and a cap.

Those are just like the burrs that attached to my coat at Mark Twain Lake!

No wild animals today, but this guy comes close.  I say that out of respect.
I'm just not that balanced, as you'll see in a bit.

 Shining, shimmering, splendid...

The best hollow stump I've seen so far

Eat your heart out, Tanglevine Trail!

You know I love my moss.

A dark tunnel under Highway 30 - that's as close as I'm getting!

Under - and between - the Highway's bridges

Shade from the bridge has kept this section of trail ice-covered and super-slick, but clearly that hasn't prevented quite a number of folks from walking on it.

There may have been a dog or two here as well.

I wanted to get back down to the river, and it looked like an easy enough jump.

I ended up falling three times and sliding most of the way down.
I'm pretty sure it was just mud...

Whatever it was, I stepped in it too.
Not sure which got hurt more, my pride or my posterior.
Fortunately, the camera was OK, and the (very cold) river was right there for rinsing.

 Someone was tunneling...

Those are Cheerios (or something similar) all along the water's edge.
???

Yikes.

Lots of interesting rock fissures near the water

And fascinating patterns on this one...
